DFS Football scoring differs between the various sites that offer Daily Fantasy Football contests. It is very important to understand the scoring system at whichever site you are playing. If a site scoring system is very heavily weighted towards Goals and Assists then the significant part of your budget would be spend on key attacking players.
Below is a comparison of the Daily Football scoring systems at the sites we consider to have the best Fantasy Football contests for UK players. It is worth noting that DraftKings Football contests only require 8 players in a team versus 11 players at Mondogoal, FanDuel UK and PlayON.

Differences in DFS Football scoring
When selecting your Daily Fantasy Football line-up it is vital you take into account the points scoring system at the site that you are choosing to play at. As the table above shows, some sites award points for activities such as time on the pitch, crosses, chances created, penalty save, etc, that other sites don’t award points for. This can make a significant difference when assessing which players to pick.
An English Premier League winger who takes set pieces such as Andros Townsend in the 2015/16 season would earn far more points in a DraftKings contest than in a PlayON or Mondogoal contest as he is awarded 1 point for every cross. If taking every corner then he will earn 1 point each time plus still have the potential for an assist each time which scores a notable 6 points.
The DFS Football scoring at DraftKings is heavily weighted towards attacking players whilst Mondogoal and PlayON require a more balanced lineup with more points available for players in Defensive positions due to larger relative clean sheet points available and points awarded for defender tackles only (Mondogoal Football).
Although the points values differ hugely between the sites (especially between PlayON and the other two sites), the key to picking a winning lineup is identifying the player actions that will earn you the most points. For DraftKings this would be picking players with the highest propensity to earn points for attacking actions. An assist on DraftKings is worth double the points of a clean sheet, and a goal is worth more than 3x the points, so picking defenders who take set pieces (crosses 1 pt each time) and push forward is a more effective way to earn consistent points than looking for players who are very good defensively (with a high potential to keep a clean sheet) but who are unlikely to pick up any of the valuable points on offer for attacking options.
Mondogoal award the same number of points for a defender clean sheet as an assist, and half the points for a single goal game. Mondogoal also only award tackle points to defenders adding more importance to a balanced line-up at Mondogoal. We will explore different strategies for the DFS Football scoring at the two biggest sites but the table above should provide a useful reference point.
