Although categorised as a Daily Fantasy Sport, we will discuss both ‘Daily Fantasy Golf’ and ‘Weekly Fantasy Golf’ contests. The key difference being ‘Daily Fantasy Golf’ contests will take place over one round of golf whereas in ‘Weekly Fantasy Golf’ contests, scoring typically takes place over a whole four day golf tournament.
Here at Fantasy Fives we want to introduce and help you on both types of contests. Depending on which website you choose to play at, you can play in contests based on the U.S. PGA Tour (Draft Kings) or on the European Tour (DraftKings & PlayON).
On both sites you can play for fun in a free contest, create your own private Fantasy Golf contest between friends, or enter a real money contest again fellow golf fans for the chance to win huge cash prizes.
At the time of writing Draft Kings only offers contests based on a full 4 day tournament, whereas PlayON offer contests based on full 4 day tournaments and on each round within a tournament.
How to play Daily and Weekly Fantasy Golf
The rules for Daily and Weekly Fantasy Golf contests differ depending on which site you play at but Draftkings Golf contests offer the widest selection of competitions to enter alongside the biggest prizepools. A good example was their ‘Millionaire Maker’ tournament during the U.S Masters. This contest had a $4million prizepool with $1million prize guaranteed for first place, and an entry fee of only $20!
Unlike traditional formats, in Draft Kings and PlayON Golf contests, it isn’t just your team of golfers finishing positions that will decide how you have scored and if you are collecting any Fantasy Golf winnings! There are points to be earned on every hole meaning the excitement never stops.
To play you will pick a team of 6 Golfers for your Draftkings Golf team (7 for your PlayON Golf line-up) however you will have a budget so you can’t just pick the 6 top rated players, you have to use your judgement to find the right balance of players for your team in order to score as many points as possible. The Fantasy Golf overview below is the based on both Draftkings Golf and PlayON Golf as both use a very similar scoring format.
- Pick 6/7 Golfers for your Fantasy Golf team whilst staying within a set budget;
- Your team members can gain points each hole (albatross, eagle, birdie)
- Your team members can also lose points each hole (bogey, double bogey, triple bogey, etc.);
- Your team members gain points according to their final finishing position;
- There are also streaks and bonus points available for 3 birdies in a row, hole in one, bogey free rounds, and lowest round of the day;
- The team whose 6/7 players score the most points over the round or full tournament wins, however there are plenty of prizes on offer.
